Project Description

Saturna Rec Centre

The small community on Saturna Island wished to develop a program for a multi purpose Community Centre, was to include an athletic court/performance hall, commercial kitchen, Health clinic, and field office for Parks Canada.  The building was to be constructed to post disaster requirements, and incorporates a variety of energy conservation measures, including geothermal heating/cooling, and water conservation.  The building was designed to reflect the rural nature of the community, with the hall surrounded by the ancillary uses to reduce the visual mass, and the use of locally sourced materials, including structural framing and exterior siding.
